The widespread belief that all American wives are bitches could not be farther from the truth. It’s just that women here know their rights and can stand up for themselves. There relations with the husband are equitable and partner-like. Each one is contributing to the family and the marriage. In a normal family, neither the husband nor the wife avoids financial or household duties. This is why Russian women should not go to the other extreme and approach marriage from the consumerist viewpoint. This is a big mistake! Nobody owes us anything here. Meanwhile, we have to learn a lot, overcome a great deal, understand and come to like many things. It is for us, immigrant women, that this country has prepared minimum wages and the hard path toward self-fulfillment. This is why we need a husband with both his feet firmly on the ground, well-to-do and willing to support us, especially at the start of married life.
Each one of you will obviously come up with many pros and cons before you can answer the question: Should I go there? Place on the con scale all of your doubts, fears of losing touch with your loved ones and your favorite job, and on the pro scale – only the desire to love and be loved. Which will outweigh the other? If the pro scale, then go ahead. Love will help you overcome your fears, rediscover yourself, cope with the separation from your loved ones and your homeland. Love will help you feel needed and desired. Love will help you view the world through a fresh pair of eyes, realize that you are free, independent and close to different people inhabiting this planet.
